From 410 suspects and 360 case dossiers that have been
sent to the Public Prosecutors, 316 suspects (in 282
cases) have been marked as “P-21” cases (meaning that
the case preparation has been completed and is ready for
trial).
According to Kolonel Ditya Soedarsono, in the last three
months of the coordinated military emergency operation
31 GAM members who have been sent to court and have been
sentenced in various courts around Aceh, a province of
around 4.2 million people.
"The TNI and police continue to carry out intensive
examination of the cases against GAM members and the
development of documents recording the activities of
those connected to Hasan Tiro’s rebellion,” he said.
The coordinated operation in Aceh launched by the
government on May 19 2003 is focussed on four
objectives, namely a humanitarian operation, an
operation to consolidate governance, the enforcement of
law, and the restoration of security.
The law enforcement operation in Aceh, which is driven
by the police, continues to be carried out through
giving leadership and instruction to the people to build
cooperation and mutual responsibility in order to secure
the villages from the threat of Hasan Tiro’s rebels.
"The securing of the environment by the people will take
place through the strengthening of neighbourhood
security posts in every village and hamlet. Today the
people are gaining the courage to report to the TNI and
police if GAM rebels appear in their area,” he said. |
