Defence Statement in Reply to the Prosecutors’ Indictment

Thursday, 9 October, 2003

In the name of the accused Muhammad Usman Lampoh Awe
Read in Banda Aceh Court

In terms of the “Negotiators” issue that has been brought before this court, I have gone along with the case in the following ways:

1. I have heard the Public Prosecutor’s accusations.
2. I have made a demurrer.
3. I have heard the Public Prosecutor’s indictment.

Up until now I feel no guilt, because what I have done is entirely within the framework of the agreement that was acknowledged and signed by the two sides (the Republic of Indonesia and GAM).

If there have been errors, then it is the Joint Security Committee (JSC) that will decide on sanctions, in line with the determination made in the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA).

Because of this, at this time I have no need to defend myself for things that are not illegal.

However because I have legal counsel with more capability in this area I entrust all these issues to my team of legal counsel.

Thank You.
Banda Aceh, September 9 2003

T. Muhammad Usman di Lampoh Awe
