	Aceh-Eye Conflict in Aceh Martial Law Impact Violence Against Women.

INCIDENT REPORTS

Many more cases of sexual abuse and other violence against women have been reported and will be added to the incident reports as information is verified.

GREATER ACEH

JANUARY, 2004

19 January
At 10.00, TNI Special Forces (Kopassus) soldiers from the post at the Lhok Nga district government office seized the family of Teungku Muharram Idris (GAM deputy commander for Acheh Rayek). The victims were:

1) Ainul Mardiah Ishak 60 yrs, Muharram Idri's mother, from Cot Lamkuweuh village, Meraxa district.
2) Jafar Idris 35 yrs, Muharram Idris’ elder brother, from Cot Lamkuweuh village, Meraxa district.
3) Cut Khairan 20 yrs, Muharram Idris’ wife, from Meunasah Mesjid Lampuuk village, Lhok Nga district, who had been seized on a previous occasion.

The fate of the victims is still unknown.

15 January
Police Mobile Brigade officers from the military post at the Jeuneu archaeological site office in Peukan Bada district, seized relatives of two GAM members. The victims were:

1) Nurlalila Mukhtar 24 yrs, the sister of TNA guerrilla Bunayya 22 yrs,
2) Ratnawati Adnan 24 yrs the sister of TNA guerrilla Zulfikar 22 yrs.

Both victims were residents of Lamtengouh village, Peukan Bada district. They were accused of helping GSM by regularly carrying supplies for them.

OCTOBER, 2003

12 October
Starting from Sunday 12/10 the TNI is forcing all wives, children and relatives of TNA guerillas, as well as the broader population, in six villages in the Meuree area of Indrapuri district, Acheh Rayek to participate in a military operation in the jungle. They are being forced to walk in front of the TNI lines as human shields. TNA soldiers’ family members are forced to call out over microphones to their relatives in the TNA to surrender themselves to the TNI.

4 October
A force of police Mobile Brigade officers that included Sanusi ZA 18 yrs, from Geudong in North Acheh but who lives in Gurah village, Peukan Bada district, Greater Acheh (Acheh Rayeuk), carried out a military operation in Peukan Bada district. The officers(and Sanusi, who was dressed as a Mobile Brigade officer and armed with an SSI rifle) raided the homes of, tortured, and seized civilians in a number of villages in Peukan Bada. Among the victims were:

1) Nana Nurdin 17 yrs, of Lam Kunot village, who was tortured and sexually harassed.
2) Basyah Usman 65 yrs, of Lam Kunot village, who was tortured after his house was raided.
3) Nurlaili 21 yrs, the daughter of Basyah Usman, who was sexually harassed.

SEPTEMBER, 2003

18 September
At 03.00 am, combined troops of TNI-POLRI with 7 military trucks perpetrated operation to Ujung Pancu area, Peukan Bada sub district, Acheh Besar. During that operation, at 07.00 am, TNI captured four families of GAM, including their children:

1.Erlinawati Zainun 30 yrs. she was breast feeding her 20 day old baby. She was arrested together with her sons and baby. They are :

1) Yaumil Akram 6 yrs
2) Muhammad Ghadaffi 3 yrs,
3) Ibnu Arkil (babyi 20 days).

She was arrested because her husband, M.Nasir is financial staff of GAM branch of Acheh Besar .

Hafriani Zainun 27 yrs, as Erlinawati's sister, also was arrested together with her children:

1) Surya 4 yrs,
2) Diana 2 yrs.

At the same time, troops also arrested Fitri Abdul Wahab 25 yrs together with her baby. Cut Phon Na 2 yrs. She was arrested because her husband is member of GAM who did not surrender.

At the same time, troops also arrested the wife of Tgk Muharram (senior member of GAM in Acheh Besar) who just got married, all of whom are villagers of Lam Keunerom, Peukan Bada sub district, they were arrested then taken by troops, their whereabouts remains unknown.

19 September
Kopassus Special Forces troops from Lhok Nga base seized Cut Chairani binti T. M. Saleh 20 yrs, a resident of Lampuuk village, Lhok Nga district. The victim is the wife of a TNA member, Muharram, and was seized from her home where she was suffering from an illness. Her fate is still unknown.

AUGUST, 2003

6 August
At 09.00 o'clock,the Brimob of Polresta Banda Acheh came to a house looking for Rezza, and they tortured all the family members in Peunayong Market,Banda Acheh. One child was shot in his leg All members of Rezza’s family, three of them female, were taken to the road and tortured in front of Peunayong society before being arrested. The female victims name are:

-Sakdiah binti Harun 40 yrs,wife,
-Sri Bahagiawati 18 yrs,child,
-Sri Wahyuni 16 yrs,child

5 August
The alliance troops at post Kuta Baro subdistrict arrested Yani binti Ismail 20 yrs in her house at Kp Babah Jurong,Kuta Baro subdistrict,Greater Acheh. The victim is Azhar's wife 27 yrs – Azhar is a GAM solder. She is still arrested now (mid August) and the troops have threatened to shoot her unless her husband surrenders.

4 August
The killing of one family in Tamiang.
The killing by TNI of brothers Zulkarnaini Syafi'i 16 yrs and Rizal Syafi'i 20 ys,both live in Kampung Tanjong Seulamat,Bendahara subdistrict,Acheh Tamiang Regency. They were the final members of that family – the father had been killed earlier. The mother and sister sexually abused and then killed the previous month.

Tgk.Di Abubukar 50 yrs and Nurafni 19 yrs both from Lam kruet,Lhok Nga subdistrict,Greater Acheh, have reported to non organic Kopassus(special elite in Indonesian forces)Lhok Nga, Greater Acheh. They went because Nurafni-DI Saiful's wife-one of GAM soldiers in Greater Acheh was arrested and held as a shield until her husband went to the camp to give himself. And Di Abu Bakar as a Saiful's father allowed to go home.

JUNE, 2003

In the first week of June (date uncertain) Narfa Irwani binti Muhammad Hassan 16 yrs, of Buket Teukueh, Idi Rayeuek, reported she was gang-raped 20 days ago (sometime in May) by 8 Brimob troops at their command post of Keude Treing. The girl remembers the name of one of the rapists: Hanafi Johan. The case was not reported earlier because the family was threatened that they all would killed if the matter were publicised. The girl and the family are now safe in hiding deep in a remote village in another district in Acheh.

MAY, 2003

31 May
TNI searched a house belonging to Hafsah, 50, a resident of Bayu village, Darul Imarah District, Greater Acheh Regency. She was also threatened because her son is a GAM soldier.
