 Aceh-Eye Conflict in Aceh Martial Law Impact Violence Against Women.
   INCIDENT REPORTS
Many more cases of sexual abuse and other violence against women have been reported and will be added to the incident reports as information is verified.
  EAST ACEH

  FEBRUARY, 2004

1 February
At 10.00, TNI troops from Alue Ie Mirah base seized the family of a TNA guerrilla.The victims were the wife and children of the TNA?s D-4 District Commander Idi, namely:

1) Darwiah Harun 35 yrs, wife
2) Juliana 15 yrs, child
3) Nurasyinah 12 yrs, child
4) Budi Arifin8 yrs, child
5) Anwar 5 yrs, child

The victims are residents of Nek Sa village, Alue Ie Mirah. They have been told they will not be released unless Darwiah Harun's husband immediately gives himself up.


  JANUARY, 2004

19 January
At 11.30, TNI Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad) troops from Keude Pliek base seized the family of Syahrul (a TNA soldier). The victims were:

1) Salmawati Khamis 32 yrs, his wife, of Lhok Dalam village, Idi Rayek.
2) Tajul Arifin 13 yrs, his son,
3) Rafsanjani 18months his infant son.

All the victims are being held at the Lhok Dalam military post in Idi Rayeuk.They have been told they will not be released until Syahrul surrenders himself to the TNI.

3 January
Pilice Mobile Brigade officers from Seuneubok Baro base in Idi Cut carried out ahouse-to-house military operation in the village of Seuneubok Baro.During the operation a number of young women and widows were raped.Many of the rape victims were afraid to report the rapes as the TNI has "disappeared" victims who give evidence against them.The rape victims who have asked us to report the crimes are:

1) Kak Cut Nurdin 30 yrs, widow
2) Nila Nasruddin 25 yrs, unmarried woman
3) Dekna Zailani 25 yrs, unmarried woman
4) Wardah Ibrahim 22 yrs, unmarried woman


  DECEMBER, 2003

8 December
At 9.00, TNI troops from Banda Alam base raided the home of a TNA member, M Yusuf Idris 23 yrs, of Panton Rayek M hamlet, Keudee Geupula, Banda Alam district. During the raid, the troops tortured M. Yusuf Idris’ entire family: including

1) Nuraida 40 yrs Yusuf’s mother
2) Maliarnida 10 yrs M.Yusuf’s sister
3) Zulkifli Idris 3 yrs M Yusuf’s youngest sibling.

After being tortured, all the victims were seized and taken away by the troops. All three have now been released.

At 10.00, TNI troops from Bandar Dua base raided the home of a TNA guerrilla, Abdul Wahab bin Ahmad 23 yrs, of Panton Rayek A hamlet, Bandar Dua district. The TNI troops did not find him there, so tortured and seized his parents:

1) Tgk Ahmad 60 yrs, Abdul Wahab’s father
2) Kamariah 54 yrs, Abdul Wahab’s mother

The troops also seized Nurhayati 40 yrs, of Panton Rayek hamlet. Mother of TNA member Iskandar Daud 21 yrs. The victim was sick at home when she was seized, while the rest of her family, including Iskandar Daud’s younger siblings, were able to flee the home to escape the TNI.

9 January
The TNI and police have banned all midwives and nurses from working in hospitals in the interior of East Acheh (Peureulak). All hospitals in the villages have been turned into TNI/Police posts. The soldiers suspect that these hospitals have regularly treated wounded and sick TNA guerrillas. A midwife from Idi Rayek, Absab 30 yrs, who was pregnant, was tortured by the TNI until she miscarried, apparently accused of treating TNA guerrillas.


  NOVEMBER, 2003

27 November
In the report dated 26 November 2003 it was stated that on November 25 Mariani Binti Manaf and her 7-month old baby had been shot. On November 26 Mariani’s child died in Idi Rayek hospital. Previously we had received information that the victims were being treated at Langsa hospital, but further information has revealed that all the victims of this incident were treated at Idi Rayek hospital.

26 November
At 08.00, TNI soldiers from Keude Gerueubak base seized a woman, Wardati binti Jadon 32 yrs, a resident of Pulo Blang village, Idi Rayek, and wife of Bakhtiar Ali Basyah, a TNA soldier. The victim was seized along with her four children, namely:

1) Saridan 14 yrs,
2) Syamsul 13 yrs,
3) Nur Halimah 11 yrs,
4) M. Saleh 9 yrs.

At 11.00, TNI soldiers from Idi Rayek military district command seized Fitri Ismail 25 yrs, a resident of Keude Blang village, Idi Rayek district. The victim was seized from her home because her husband, Ismail Nurdin, is a TNA soldier. The victim was told she will not be released until her husband surrenders himself.

At 16.00, TNI soldiers from Idi Rayek military district command seized Supriani Tgk. Husen 27 yrs, a resident of Jawa village, Idi Rayek district. The victim was seized from her home because her husband, Baidawi, is a TNA soldier. The victim remains in custody and has been told she will not be released until her husband surrenders to the TNI.

25 November
At 13.00, TNI from Idi Rayek base who were carrying out a military operation burnt the home of Kak Bayeun 45 yrs, a widow. The victim’s home was burnt because the TNI alleged it was a GAM hiding place. The village is Seunebok Kandang.

24 November
At 09.00, TNI from Keude Geureubak base in Idi Rayek district seized Nurul M. Isa 22 yrs a resident of Paya Laman village, Banda Alam district. The victim was seized from her home because her brother, Angkasah, is a TNA soldier. Again, the victim was told she would not be released until her brother surrenders.


  OCTOBER, 2003

23 October
After an exchange of fire between TNA and Indonesian Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officers in Matang Kunyet village, Bagok district, Brimob officers shot dead a civilian, Abdullah Meuluweuk 49 yrs. The victim was a resident of Seuneubok Buloh village, Idi Cut district.

20 October
A combined force of TNI soldiers and police raided Alue Kumba village, Rato Seulamat district. During the time of the raid the residents of the village were gathered together in one place. Men and women were separated. After interrogating and torturing residents, the TNI also sexually harassed the women. The troops stole five motorcycles owned by village residents.

11 October
A TNI force from SGI/Rajawali based at Idi Rayek seized Muliawani binti Ahmad 25 yrs, of Lhok Jok village, Peudawa Rayek district. The victim was taken from her home in that village, because her husband, Ridwan, is TNA Operations Commander for Peudawa Rayek district. The victim’s fate is still unknown.


  SEPTEMBER, 2003

25 September
TNI troops tortured an elderly woman by the name of Ainol Mardiah Abdul Hadi 51 yrs, from the village of Keumeuneng I, Darul Aman, Idi Cut. She was beaten until one left rib was broken.

21 September
The troops turned over and destroyed the furniture and belongings in the home, and took everything of value, including the clothing of Tgk. Ishak Daud. At the same time the soldiers kidnapped the wife of Tgk Ishak Daud, Cut rostina Binti T. Ismail 27 yrs from the house. Their two young children, Muhammad Ambiya Afifuddin 2 yrs and Annisa (9 months), were also taken. Tgk Ishak Daud’s family was taken to Langsa Military District Command, and released a few days later.

20 September
TNI soldiers tortured a woman, Nursiah Yusuf 28 yrs, of Seunebok Simpang, Darul Aman, Idi Cut district. The victim was the wife of a civilian, Razali, who was kidnapped by the TNI two months ago and is still missing.

TNI tortured a woman, Nurhalimah 25 yrs, of Seunebok Simpang, Darul Aman, Idi Cut district. The victim was the wife of a TNA soldier who was martyred some time ago. The victim was dressed in a striped shirt, tied up and interrogated. The victim is now in a critical condition.


  JULY, 2003

11 July
In one operation TNI tortured some civilians, reported names are Saiful Zakaria 25yrs, Hasballah 35yrs, Ridwan 28 yrs and Hasyim Syafari 25 yrs from Bukit Pala and stripped. Few women Alina Mustapha, Mariayana Armiya, Aminah Ridwan 20yrs, Wardah Karim 30yrs, Saleha Abu Bakr 32 yrs were stripped in public and sexually harassed. These women are from Lhok Paya, Peurelak.


  MAY, 2003

21 May
A body of a woman was found mutilated Mariah Muhammad 32yrs a mother from Idi Cut, East Acheh.
