Some 5,000 students in North Aceh regency have not
been able to attend classes after floods caused school
shutdowns beginning Friday.
The North Aceh education and teaching agency, a
kindergarten, six elementary schools in Mantang Kuli,
two junior highs and a high school in Mantang Kuli
suffered the worst damages.
Agency official Murthalamuddin said Sunday damages
were still accumulating because the rain was still
coming down.
"We believed the damages will cost us billions of
rupiah. Last year similar flooding cost Rp 5 billion
(US$460,000)," he said, as quoted by Antara news
agency.
Murthalamuddin said 25 schools in all have been
damaged by the floods. He said the Aceh government has
yet to allocate money for repairs. (dre). |
