The
songs and dances of Aceh generally reflect Islamic
prayers art. In the VOC era, the songs and dances are
very popular to support fighting spirits against the
Dutch. Aceh's dances are dynamic and performed
collectively rather than individually.

Guel Dance
Laweut Dance
The word "Laweut" was taken from Arabian
word "Seulawat". This dance is originally
performed in Pidie Aceh by 8 females including
the leader.
Meuseukat Dance
This is a ritual dance to welcome the
birthday of Prophet Muhammad. The dancers pray
and praise for God. This dance is performed in
the whole Aceh.
Pho Dance
Formerly, this dance was performed in a
burial service. Today, the dance becomes an
entertainment performed in a feast in the
whole Aceh.
Piasan Raya
This is a radiant youngsters' dance and
originally performed in Banda Aceh.
Rebana Dance
The dancers combined dancing, singing
skill, and playing "rebana" instrument.
Saman Meusekat Dance
This dance performed with the song that
has Islamic prayers character.
Seudati Dance
The singers and dancers are performed by
no less than 8 males, two escorts, and a
leader. This dance is performed in the whole
Aceh.
Tarek Pukat
This dance is describing sailors' life.
Performed in Banda Aceh.
Ular-Ular Dance (Banda Aceh)
The dance describes the life and attitude
of the snake. Performed in the Banda Aceh. |
