During her visit to Indonesia, development minister Agnes van Ardenne pledged to donate an extra 60 million euros to the Multi Donor Fund (MDF) for the reconstruction of Aceh and the island of Nias.

The minister yesterday visited Aceh, where she was shown various reconstruction projects set up to tackle the destruction caused by the tsunami in December 2004. “The MDF has proved both efficient and effective. Two thousand houses have been built or repaired, five thousand new homes will be constructed. Over a thousand kilometres of roads have been repaired and four hundred and one bridges reconstructed”, the minister said during her visit to Aceh.
